RE: Canton Lake Dam & Water Levels

Dear Ray:

Thank you for calling me today to talk about your plans for complying with the Canton Lake water level order.

I understand that you removed two gates from the dam last fall because they needed repairs. I also understand that you have now received new sprockets that have been fabricated for the gates and that you are now putting the new gates together. Finally, I understand that the new gates will be in place in the dam within a week and that the lake will then be refilled to meet the June 1 target level.

Please call me at 207-287-3901 and inform me when the gates are installed and again when the lake has refilled to the June 1 target level.

In our telephone call, you said that you wanted to see some changes in the current water level order. If you want to have the water level order modified, please send in to me a detailed written explanation of what changes you propose and why you want these changes made.

In our telephone call, you also said that you were interested in pursuing the installation of hydro generating equipment at the dam. I am enclosing a packet of information describing the required state and federal process for hydro project approval.

Thank you for your attention to the Canton Lake Dam and water levels.

Sincerely,

Dana Paul Murch,
Dams & Hydro Supervisor
