Mission Statement for IP Land

June 1, 1998

Mission: The I.P. Lands will be managed as stewardship forest to reach the goals of sustainable timber production, wildlife habitat protection, low-impact recreation, historical education, and enhancement of natural beauty over a long period, while protecting soil and water resources.
These goals will be achieved by applying forest management practices based on ecological principles.
Goals:
Forest
  • produce a profit while practicing sustainable forestry
  • designate some demonstration areas for "best management practices" and possibly "old growth" forest
  • encourage bio-diversity
Wildlife
  • protect habitat, particularly identified critical areas
  • enhance wildlife habitat
Recreation
  • encourage low-impact, pedestrian use (river-front land)
  • possibly extend Greenways Project
  • designate picnic areas
  • discourage motorized use through education
Historical
  • involve local historians/organizations to get information
  • map historical sites
Aesthetic
  • map important views
  • possibly develop view sites, if practical
  • practice "logging aesthetics" when possible (assess botanical resources)
Financial
  • produce a profit while practicing sustainable forestry
  • generate funds for acquisition of conservation lease land
